CJHS Remote Learning Plan and Student Responsibilities

Students/Parents,

You have chosen Remote Learning for the start of this new school year. This document will help provide key information that will help you successfully begin the school year through Remote Learning. Please use this document as a guide to help you get started and understand your responsibilities under this learning plan. This document may be updated on occasion with additional or new information as it comes available. Please feel free to contact me at wkrus@cusd3.com with any questions you may have and I’ll work to help answer your questions.

Respectfully,

Wayne Krus, CJHS Principal

Picking Up Remote Learning Materials

· Students may pick up their textbooks, any school materials, and laptops (if arranged) on Wednesday, August 19th from 5-7 pm at the junior high school. Materials will be available as you pull up to the main entrance for each registered remote learner. Students must wear a mask when entering the junior high school to pick up their materials. Students who requested a laptop should bring their $75 usage fee (which is refundable when laptop is returned) when picking up their textbooks on August 19th.

Attendance- What are the requirements?

· Remote learners will be required to do schoolwork online every day just as students who are attending school in person. Failure to do so will be counted as an absence for every day the student is not online. Remote learners are to follow the junior high school attendance rules for excused and unexcused absences as outlined in the student handbook.

· Remote learners are required to check in online for attendance by 8:30 every day. If you are not checked in online by 8:30, you will be given a tardy for that day which is a demerit.

o Check in using this link https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=8Fk-8o2IE06bev053ZecEhuce6DaBQlJkR_PxYQU1mBUOUhVWTlRVkxUODRFMjVUNjQ4NlJHTk1KNC4u

When is my teacher available online to help me?

· Teachers will be available to help remote learners via TEAMS, email, etc. Monday-Friday from 1:30-3:30.

· Teachers will also use this time to develop and upload lessons for remote learners.

· Teachers will not be available after their 1:30- 3:30 Remote Learning office hours. If a student/parent has a question or emails the teacher after their office hours have ended, the teacher will respond the next day during their office hours.

How are classes arranged this year?

· For this school year, CJHS is switching to a Block schedule instead of a traditional 8 period day. All students will have four classes taught on an “A” day and then another four classes taught the next day on a “B “day. This means remote learners will just have to focus on four classes each day instead of all of their classes each day.

How do I access my classes?

· All teachers will post daily plans on planbook.com and use Office 365 TEAMS to set up classes for remote learners. These two sites will be the primary locations to go to for videos of recorded lessons, links to additional online learning resources, homework assignments, and class documents that the teacher shares with online learners.

· To access Planbook and Teams, students should go to www.cusd3.com and click on the “Student Launch Pad” app at the top of the district homepage. This app will take students to planbook.com and Office 365 Teams where students will login into those programs for their daily instruction. Students should begin each day with logging into Planbook first to review their remote learning instructions for day and follow their teacher’s instructions for the lesson and any homework assigned.

PLANBOOK.COM

· Lessons on planbook.com will be organized for both the in-person learner and remote learner. Each day is also labeled as an “A” day or a “B” day. Teachers will use planbook.com primarily for delivering instruction along with their lesson plans. Teachers will have their lesson plans posted on Planbook on Monday by 8:00 AM, but students are to daily check the posted lesson plans for any updates or changes to the lesson plans. Teachers often have to alter lesson plans throughout the week based on various factors and all students will be expected to complete the work on the lesson plans posted for that day. Avoid working ahead assuming you have the work done for the week since lesson plans can change throughout the week.

OFFICE 365 TEAMS

· Teachers will use Office 365 Teams along with Planbook for posting homework assignments, quizzes, etc. for remote learners.

· Teachers will setup their individual classes that they teach in Teams. You can click on that class to view that day’s assignments, quizzes, and information that the teacher might post. On the left side of the Teams page, you will see an “Assignments” icon where teachers can post assignments, quizzes, etc., for you to receive and submit homework.

· We will be using Teams for both in-person and remote learning so that we can be as consistent as possible with ALL students.

· If you have any questions or need help accessing your account once the school year starts, you can contact your teacher every day during their 1:30-3:30 office hours.

What if I don’t have internet access at my house?

· Central will provide a laptop to those that need them. There is a $75 usage fee for borrowing a school laptop that is refundable if the laptop is returned in proper working order. If you need one, make sure you have contacted the junior high school office to be put on that list.

o If you do not have internet access, we will be using thumb drives that will contain all lessons, worksheets, videos, etc. for your instruction. Paper packets will not be used this school year.

o Teachers will upload their instruction, documents, homework, etc. to a thumb drive and the student/parent must make arrangements to come to the school to pick up the thumb drive (most likely twice a week). We may use two thumb drives so that when a student turns in their assignments on one thumb drive, he/she will exchange that for a second thumb drive for the next set of lessons and homework.

Can I still be involved in extra-curricular activities as a remote learner?

· Remote learners are still able to stay involved in all extra-curricular activities as long as they maintain weekly eligibility. It will be your responsibility as a remote learner to make sure your homework is turned in on time throughout the week and you are passing six classes a week.

Can I switch back to in person learning?

· After the first two weeks of school, any student who wished to switch from in-person learning to remote learning, or vice versa, may do so at that time. Once the deadline has passed for switching, students will not be allowed to switch back for the rest of the semester.

On Site Testing (STAR 360 Assessment)

· All students, in-person and remote learning are expected to take the STAR Reading and Math assessment. We will be contacting remote 5-8 students to come to school to take the quick assessment after student hours.

· We are using this assessment from K-8th grade and we use it to track growth of each individual student through their years in our district.

· Mr. Krus will be contacting you about coming to the junior high to take the assessment. The date will be August 25th:

o 1:30-3:30

o 5:30-7:30
